Description
Saddle shape and padding thickness tend to dominate comfort discussions, but the rail material underneath plays a significant role in how road vibration reaches your sit bones. The Ritchey WCS Carbon Streem Saddle uses unidirectional carbon fiber rails instead of the titanium or steel alternatives found on most performance saddles, which changes the vibration damping characteristics while dropping weight compared to metal-railed versions. Carbon rails flex differently than metal under load—they absorb high-frequency chatter rather than transmitting it directly, which becomes noticeable on rough chip seal or during long days in the saddle.
The Streem's shell uses Ritchey's Vector Wing design, a geometry that allows the rear of the saddle to flex independently under pedaling loads. This controlled deflection accommodates hip movement during the pedal stroke without the saddle fighting against your natural motion. The nose tapers to a narrower profile than Ritchey's Comp and Classic saddles, giving thigh clearance during high-cadence efforts and reducing chafing on longer rides. Minimal padding covers the shell—enough to take the edge off pressure points without the mushiness that causes you to sink into thicker saddles and lose power transfer.
Rail dimensions follow the 7x9mm carbon oval standard rather than the 7mm round profile used on metal rails. This matters for clamp compatibility—most modern seatpost heads accommodate both profiles, but older two-bolt designs may not grip the oval shape securely. Check your seatpost specifications before ordering if you're running vintage equipment or a head designed specifically for round rails.... Read More
