Internal cable routing on bikes that weren't originally designed for it has historically meant ugly compromises — drilled frames, exposed cables looping into the headtube, or expensive proprietary cockpits. Ritchey's WCS Logic-E headset takes a different angle: route the cables through the headset itself, leaving the frame and fork untouched. The EC44/28.6 version covers the upper assembly for 44mm headtubes that accept external cup headsets, with an EC44/40 lower to match.

The system works by guiding wires and hydraulic lines through dedicated channels in the upper cup and top cover, keeping the bearings clear of any cable interference. That last detail matters — plenty of internally routed setups force cables to pass through the bearing race, which traps water, shortens bearing life, and makes service a hassle. The Logic-E keeps the routing path separate from the bearing path, so the cartridge bearings can do their job without contamination.

The top cover is nylon and glass fiber, which lets Ritchey shape the cable channels without machining aluminum, and the bearings are sealed 45°/45° angular contact cartridges sized 51.8/40mm. Stack height comes in at 35.2mm up top and 14.2mm on the bottom — taller than a low-profile headset, which is the trade-off for getting cables routed cleanly through the assembly.
