Description

Lock-on grips solve a problem that riders of a certain era remember vividly—the slow rotation of slip-on grips during sweaty climbs, followed by the inevitable full spin that leaves you grabbing bare bar mid-descent. The Ritchey WCS Python Trail Grips use a single aluminum clamp at the inboard end to anchor the grip permanently, while the outboard edge remains open for an unobstructed feel at the bar end. This asymmetric lock-on design keeps the grip secure without adding unnecessary hardware where it isn't needed.

The grip compound itself runs softer than Ritchey's XC-oriented options, prioritizing vibration damping over pure grip longevity. Trail riding generates sustained impacts through rough sections, and a softer compound absorbs more of that energy before it reaches your palms. The tradeoff is accelerated wear compared to harder rubber, but most trail riders accept this exchange for the reduced hand fatigue during longer descents and technical segments.

The Python pattern uses raised nodules rather than the traditional ribbed texture found on many grips. This surface design provides consistent traction regardless of hand rotation—useful when shifting grip position through varied terrain. At 130mm length, these fit the standard mountain bike grip dimension, leaving room for bar ends if you run them or sitting flush against inboard controls if you don't.... Read More
