Description

Flared gravel bars exist on a spectrum, and the Ritchey WCS VentureMax sits firmly on the aggressive end of that range. With 24 degrees of flare at the drops paired with a short 76mm reach and shallow 102mm drop, this is a bar that fundamentally changes how the lower hand position feels — wider, more stable, and less of a stretch to hold for long stretches of rough terrain. It's the kind of geometry that makes sense once you've spent a few hours descending loose gravel and realized that a road-bar drop position doesn't give you the leverage you need.

The construction is triple-butted 7050 aluminum, which is the alloy Ritchey reserves for its WCS-tier components. The tops are aero-shaped at 38x22.5mm — flattened front-to-back so your palms have a wider surface to rest on, which matters on bikepacking days where the tops are your default hand position. Down in the drops, Ritchey brings back what they call the Bio-bend: an ergonomic bump that follows the curve of your palm to spread out pressure rather than concentrate it on one spot.

The bar is drilled for a Shimano EW-RS910 Di2 junction box, so if you're running electronic shifting you can mount the junction cleanly inside the bar end rather than dangling it off the stem. The clamp diameter is the standard 31.8mm, which means it works with essentially any modern road or gravel stem without adapter shims. Width is measured at the initial bend rather than at the hoods, which is worth knowing when you're sizing — a 42cm VentureMax will feel meaningfully wider in the drops than a 42cm road bar because of the flare angle adding to the effective width down low....
