Description
Roval pitched the Terra Aero CL at riders who race gravel courses where wind matters as much as washboard, and the rear wheel reflects that brief. The 40mm-deep carbon rim runs a 25mm internal width, a profile that holds onto aero efficiency in the 38-45mm tire range most modern gravel bikes are running. It's a tubeless-ready hookless design, finished in satin carbon with satin black graphics, and it sits in the Terra family below the flagship Terra CLX II while sharing the same intent — fast on dirt, fast on tarmac, and stable when the road surface or the wind direction changes mid-effort.
Roval builds the wheel around a DT Swiss 350 hub with a 36-tooth Star Ratchet engagement system, which gives roughly 10 degrees between pickup points — quick enough for technical climbs without the maintenance overhead of a higher-tooth-count driver. Spokes are DT Swiss Aerolite straight-pull bladed, laced 24 with brass nipples, a build pattern that prioritizes long-term trueness over weight savings on the spec sheet. The freehub is a standard XDR body, so it accepts SRAM XDR cassettes natively and Shimano 11- and 12-speed road cassettes with a swap to the appropriate driver.
The hookless rim profile sets the tire compatibility window. Roval specifies tubeless tires only, with a minimum width of 38mm and a maximum inflation pressure of 60 psi — running narrower tires or hooked-rim pressures isn't supported and risks blow-off. Within that window, the 25mm internal width seats wider gravel tires to a rounder, more supportive profile than a 21mm or 23mm rim would, which translates to better cornering feel at lower pressures and less casing roll on off-camber sections....
