Description

When Shimano released 12-speed Dura-Ace and Ultegra Di2, they introduced a new wiring standard called SD300 that uses slimmer 3.45mm diameter plugs instead of the 5.1mm plugs on the older SD50 wires. The two systems aren't directly compatible, which creates problems when you want to mix components from different generations or use older tools with newer groupsets. The EW-AD305 adapter bridges that gap with an SD50 port on one end and an SD300 port on the other, letting you connect wires from either standard.

The most common use case is connecting the SM-PCE02 diagnostic tool to 12-speed Di2 bikes. The PCE02 was released before SD300 existed, so it only has SD50 ports. Without this adapter, you can't plug into a 12-speed system to update firmware or adjust settings through E-Tube Project. If you're a shop or home mechanic working on current-generation Di2, you'll need at least one of these adapters in your toolkit.

The adapter also solves compatibility issues when building mixed-generation systems. If you're running 11-speed TT or triathlon levers with a 12-speed rear end, you'll need this adapter to connect the SD50 wiring from the older levers to the SD300 junction or battery on the newer components. Same situation applies to STEPS e-bike systems where you might be upgrading from first-generation components to EP8-era parts that use the newer wiring standard.... Read More
