Di2 E-Tube EW-AD305 Conversion Adapter
Description
Anyone who's tried to run a diagnostic check on a 12-speed Dura-Ace or Ultegra Di2 bike with the older SM-PCE02 tool has hit the same wall: the plug shapes don't match. Shimano's EW-AD305 is the small piece of hardware that solves it. It's a single adapter with an SD50 port on one end and an SD300 port on the other, and it lets the two generations of Di2 wiring talk to each other without replacing anything else in the system.
The context here matters. When 12-speed Dura-Ace R9200 and Ultegra R8100 Di2 launched, Shimano moved to the EW-SD300 wire standard with a slimmer 3.45mm plug diameter. Everything before that — 11-speed Di2, STEPS e-bike systems using SD50 wiring, and the SM-PCE02 diagnostic tool — used the older 5.1mm SD50 plug. The two aren't cross-compatible on their own, so any time you need to bridge them, this adapter is the piece that makes it work.
The most common reason to buy one is diagnostic work on current-generation Di2. The SM-PCE02 predates SD300 and only has SD50 ports, so plugging it into an R9200 or R8100 bike to run E-Tube Project — firmware updates, shift customization, error checks — requires the EW-AD305 in between. It's also used to connect SD300 wires into legacy SD50 junctions on mixed-generation builds and on some EP8 e-bike systems.... Read More
