Description

Bedding in a fresh set of pads is one of those maintenance jobs that pays off every ride, but only if you're putting the right compound in the caliper. The Shimano L05A-RF resin disc brake pads are the finned resin option for two-piston flat-mount and MTB calipers, using Shimano's 5th generation resin compound that claims 50% better wear resistance than the L03A pads they replaced. If your current pads are worn to the backing plate and you liked the quiet, controllable feel of the originals, these are the direct replacement.

Resin pads bite quieter and modulate more predictably than sintered metal, at the cost of shorter overall life and reduced performance in sustained wet conditions. The trade-off works well for most road, gravel, and lighter-duty MTB riders who spend their time in dry to occasionally damp weather and value lever feel over raw stopping power. If you're running long alpine descents in the rain or riding heavily loaded, metal pads make more sense — but for the majority of Shimano disc setups, resin is what the factory installed for a reason.

The RF designation means these pads carry Shimano's ICE Technologies aluminum radiator fins, which extend up from the backing plate above the caliper body and shed heat during hard braking. The aluminum backing plate itself also improves heat insulation compared to steel-backed pads, keeping thermal energy out of the caliper piston and brake fluid. On longer descents, that translates to less brake fade and more consistent lever feel from the top of the hill to the bottom.... Read More
