The answer is a purpose-built brake-only lever that shares the raised hood shape and anti-slip lever coating of the rest of the GRX family, so both sides of your cockpit feel identical when your hands move between the tops, hoods, and drops.

The lever body carries GRX's gravel-specific ergonomics — a hood head that sits raised relative to standard road levers to keep your hand from sliding forward on washboard or chunky descents, plus a textured lever blade coating that maintains grip when your gloves are wet, muddy, or covered in trail dust. Tool-based reach adjustment lets you dial the lever position to match your hand size, and the bracket profile is designed to accept a range of drop bar shapes including the flared gravel bars most riders pair with a GRX build.

Hydraulically, this is a standard Shimano J-Kit setup. The lever accepts the SM-BH90-JK-SSR hose with the pre-installed olive at the lever end, which cuts the number of small parts you're juggling during a bleed and makes hose swaps considerably faster than the old olive-and-barb routine. Pair it with any Shimano flat mount hydraulic caliper — BR-RX400 is the natural GRX 400-series partner for this lever, though BR-RX810 works if you want the higher-tier caliper up front.
