Description
Buying a complete cable and housing set makes sense when everything needs replacing, but sometimes you just need the inner wire. A frayed cable at the pinch bolt, a kink from a crash, or corrosion from a season of wet rides can take out a perfectly good cable while the housing remains fine. Shimano's Stainless Steel MTB Brake Cable gives you a single replacement inner wire without paying for housing and ferrules you don't need.
The cable uses Shimano's SUS stainless steel construction, where the individual strands are formed with curved outer surfaces. This geometry reduces friction against the housing liner compared to standard round-strand cables, which helps maintain smooth lever feel over time. Stainless steel also resists corrosion far better than galvanized alternatives, so the cable won't rust out from the inside after exposure to rain, mud, or bike washes.
At 2050mm, the length handles both front and rear brake routing on most mountain bikes. Front brakes typically need less cable, so you'll trim off the excess after installation. Rear brakes on full-suspension frames with longer housing runs use more of the available length, but there's generally enough for standard routing without running short. The barrel-style cable end fits the slot in mountain brake levers, including those used with V-brakes, cantilever brakes, and mechanical disc brakes.... Read More
