Description

Frayed inner wires and crushed housing ends create shifting and braking problems that no amount of adjustment can fix. The cut itself determines whether your cable system works properly, and the TL-CT12 addresses that reality with hardened carbon steel blades designed specifically for cycling cables and housing. Shimano updated the blade geometry from the previous TL-CT11, improving both initial sharpness and edge retention over repeated use. The cutting surfaces slice cleanly through braided derailleur housing and spiral-wound brake housing without the crushing deformation that cheap cutters produce.

Chrome plating covers the carbon steel construction, providing corrosion resistance and surface hardness that keeps the tool functional through years of shop or home use. The handles feature an ergonomic profile with a decreased opening angle compared to earlier versions, reducing hand fatigue during extended cable work. When you are replacing an entire bike's worth of cables and housing, comfortable grip geometry matters more than it might seem. A wire latch holds the handles together when the tool is not in use, keeping the blades protected and the cutter organized on your workbench.

Beyond cutting, the TL-CT12 integrates two additional functions that eliminate the need for separate tools during cable installation. A built-in awl behind the pivot point lets you reshape the plastic liner inside housing after making a cut. Cutting compresses the liner opening, which can impede cable movement if left uncorrected. The awl opens the passage back up so the inner wire passes through without friction. Near the handle pivot, a crimping station secures cable end caps onto trimmed inner wires. Proper crimps prevent fraying and keep the cable tidy, and the integrated crimper applies even pressure without crushing the cap flat.... Read More
