Description
Shimano's 10-speed road chains come in directional and non-directional versions, and knowing which one fits your drivetrain matters for proper installation and performance. The CN-6701 is the directional variant, designed specifically for double chainring setups where the chain moves between two front rings. The asymmetric plate design optimizes shifting in both directions: outer plates shaped to release cleanly from the big ring during downshifts, inner plates contoured to engage cassette teeth smoothly during upshifts. Install it with the stamped logos facing outward, and the chain knows which way to work.
The directional architecture addresses chain suck, that annoying tendency for the chain to stick to the chainring and wrap around toward the bottom bracket instead of releasing onto the smaller ring. Shimano reshaped the outer plates to reduce contact area at the release point, letting the chain drop cleanly when you shift to the inner ring. The inner plate profile improves cassette engagement by matching the tooth ramps and pins that Shimano machines into their sprockets. When the plates and teeth are designed as a system, shifts happen faster and quieter under load.
Perforated outer plates reduce weight without compromising strength, and chromized rivet pins improve wear resistance at the pivot points where most chain stretch originates. The zinc-alloy plating on the outer link surfaces adds corrosion resistance for riders who encounter wet conditions or sweat heavily during indoor training. Chain width measures 5.88mm, fitting the narrow spacing between 10-speed cassette cogs while maintaining the strength needed for road riding loads.... Read More
