Ultegra FD-R8050 11-Speed Di2 Front Derailleur
Size: Braze-On
Description
Front shifting has always been the weak spot in road drivetrains — the place where cable stretch, housing friction, and rider technique conspire to produce a missed shift at exactly the wrong moment. Shimano's answer with the FD-R8050 is to eliminate the rider from the equation entirely. This is the Ultegra Di2 11-speed front derailleur, and it uses a small motor and a signal wire to move the cage the same distance every time you press the button, whether you're two hours into a climb or sprinting out of the saddle.
The mechanism is a braze-on downswing design with programmed chain guide trim, which means the derailleur automatically re-centers the cage over the chain as you move across the cassette. No more listening for chain rub and hunting for the trim click — the derailleur handles it. Pair the FD-R8050 with an Ultegra Di2 rear derailleur through the Di2 control unit and you unlock Synchronized Shift and Semi-Synchronized Shift. Full Synchro shifts the front automatically when the rear reaches a programmed cog; Semi-Synchro compensates the rear cassette position when you shift the front so the cadence jump is smaller. Both modes are user-programmable through E-Tube.
Compatibility is the thing to get right here. The FD-R8050 is 2x11-speed Di2 only — it will not work with mechanical shifters, and it will not talk to 12-speed R8150 or R9250 systems. Chainring range is 46-53T with a total capacity of 16T, chainline is 43.5mm, and the frame needs a braze-on mount with a chainstay angle between 61 and 66 degrees. If your frame uses a band-on mount, you'll need the SM-AD91 braze-on adapter to run this derailleur.... Read More
