BB86 is one of those standards that quietly runs half the road bikes out there — Canyon, Giant, Scott, BMC, Trek, and plenty of others build frames around the 86.5mm shell width and 41mm inner diameter, and when the bearings finally start to grumble, this is the Shimano replacement you want. The Ultegra SM-BB72-41B presses directly into a BB86 shell and mates with any 24mm Hollowtech II spindle, which covers Dura-Ace, Ultegra, and 105 cranksets going back several generations. If the bike came from the factory with Shimano and a press-fit shell, this is the factory-spec part.

The construction is straightforward: composite resin cups housing sealed steel cartridge bearings, with the resin bumping the outer diameter up to 41mm to match the frame.
