The BL-M8200 lever is the story here. Shimano moved the pivot point closer to the bar, which changes where the lever blade sits under your finger through the stroke — less reaching at the initial engagement, more natural pull through the arc. Reach adjust is toolless, so setting lever position happens trailside without pulling gloves or digging for a 2mm hex. SERVO WAVE action shapes the power curve so bite ramps progressively rather than dumping all the friction at first contact, which is what lets you feather these brakes on techy descents instead of just grabbing a fistful.

The BR-M8220 caliper is the strongest four-piston in the M8200 family, using a dual-diameter piston layout to deliver DH-capable power in a package Shimano still specs on enduro race bikes. Revised seals maintain a consistent bite point across temperature swings, and the new low-viscosity mineral oil is what makes that work — it flows more predictably when the system heats up on long, sustained descents. Note that this oil is not backwards-compatible with older Shimano mineral oil, so don't top off from an old bottle.
