The slim oval axle body housing sheds mud more effectively than round profiles, and the open binding mechanism allows dirt to flow through rather than jamming the retention system. The pedals are fine-tuned to work with Shimano's ME and AM footwear series, though they function well with any two-bolt mountain bike shoe.

The pedals ship with Shimano's SM-SH51 cleats, which provide fixed engagement without lateral float.
