The IR designation means this one bolts directly to an I-SPEC EV brake lever clamp rather than using its own bar clamp. If your bike is already running XT or SLX brakes with I-SPEC EV compatibility, this is the cleaner install — one clamp on the bar instead of two, and the shifter position adjusts on multiple axes to dial in paddle angle and reach independent of where the brake lever sits.
