XTR CS-M9200 12-Speed Cassette
Description
Shifting under load is where wide-range cassettes usually fall apart—either you soft-pedal through the shift or you get a clunk and a missed gear. The Shimano XTR CS-M9200 12-Speed Cassette is Shimano's answer to that problem, using an updated HYPERGLIDE+ tooth and shift-ramp design that keeps the chain engaged as it climbs to the next cog under power. That's the difference between shifting mid-climb and having to time your shifts around the terrain.
The cassette comes in two configurations. The 10-51T covers a 510% range and pairs with the long-cage XTR rear derailleur, which is the setup most riders will land on for general trail and enduro use. The 9-45T covers a 500% range with a smaller overall diameter, which means better ground clearance and lower rotating mass—it pairs with the mid-cage XTR derailleur and works best around a 28T or 30T chainring. Same top-end capability, different bias toward compactness versus outright range.
Both versions run on the Micro Spline freehub body—this is not an HG-freehub cassette, so if you're coming from an older wheelset you'll need to confirm your freehub is Micro Spline compatible or budget for a swap. The 9-45T version specifically requires the TL-LR021 lockring tool because the 9T cog sits deeper into the freehub than a standard 10T, and a conventional cassette lockring tool won't fit the smaller inner diameter....
