Description
Specialized rebuilt the Crux from the ground up for the Crux 5, and the FACT 10r frameset puts the new platform within reach without the S-Works 12r price tag. The previous Crux earned its reputation as the lightest gravel bike on the market, and the Crux 5 keeps that weight discipline intact while adding aerodynamic shaping, expanded tire clearance, and geometry tuned around what Specialized calls Time to Finish—a metric that combines aero efficiency, ride quality, and handling into a single real-world speed measurement validated on actual race courses.
Frame weight comes in at 897 grams for the 10r layup. Tire clearance opens up to 55mm, which is where modern aero gravel race bikes have settled and a meaningful jump from the previous 47c ceiling. Wind tunnel work using Specialized's sixth-generation Moving Leg Mannequin claims a 15.2-watt advantage and 9 minutes 58 seconds saved over an Unbound-length course, with rider-on-bike data driving the tube shaping rather than bike-only CFD. The Moving Leg Mannequin captures how a rider's full body in motion alters airflow at race speeds, which matters because no gravel race happens without a rider on the bike.
Geometry stays race-focused without going extreme. The 56 runs a 578mm stack, 400mm reach, 71.5° head tube angle, and 78mm bottom bracket drop on 425mm chainstays—numbers that read closer to a Tarmac than a typical gravel bike, which is the point. The frame uses Rider First Engineered tube tuning so the 49 and the 61 deliver comparable handling characteristics rather than scaling stiffness with size. Specialized also incorporated direct measurements of gravel surface roughness into the development process, accounting for how rolling resistance, energy loss, and fatigue accumulation affect real-world speed alongside pure aero numbers....
