Description

The new Crux 5 marks the biggest redesign of Specialized's flagship gravel race bike since the platform shifted from cyclocross duty in 2021. Where the previous generation chased weight above all else, the Crux 5 Expert with SRAM Force XPLR AXS keeps the lightness discipline intact while adding the aerodynamic shaping, expanded tire clearance, and refined geometry that gravel racing now demands. The FACT 10r carbon frame weighs 897 grams, and the complete bike comes in at 8.22 kg in size 56—numbers that put it in conversation with road race bikes despite a 55mm tire clearance ceiling.

Specialized developed the Crux 5 around what they call Time to Finish, a metric that bundles aerodynamic drag, rolling resistance, surface roughness, and handling into a single real-world speed measurement. The Win Tunnel testing program used a sixth-generation Moving Leg Mannequin to capture how a pedaling rider alters airflow at race-relevant speeds, rather than relying on static dummies or bike-only drag numbers. Specialized claims the new Crux saves 15.2 watts over the outgoing model and finishes Unbound 9 minutes 58 seconds faster as a result.

Geometry follows the Rider First Engineered approach Specialized uses across the Tarmac and Aethos lines, tuning tube profiles and carbon layup independently across all 6 sizes so a 49 and a 61 share the same handling signature. Head tube angles steepen from 70.5° on the 49 to 71.5° on the 56 through 61, chainstays stay at 425mm across the range, and bottom bracket drop sits at 78–80mm depending on size. The UDH dropout standard handles the SRAM Force AXS XPLR rear derailleur natively and leaves the door open for future drivetrain swaps.... Read More
