Description

The Crux 5 represents Specialized's biggest rethink of the platform since the bike left its cyclocross roots behind. The previous generation chased weight above all else, but the new Crux 5 pairs that lightness discipline with aerodynamic shaping, expanded tire clearance, and a geometry package built around what Specialized calls Time to Finish—a real-world speed metric validated on actual race courses rather than just in the wind tunnel. The S-Level build slots one tier below S-Works, using the FACT 10r carbon layup at a claimed 897 grams for the frame and finishing at a complete bike weight of 7.7 kg in size 56.

Frame geometry sits firmly in race territory. Head tube angles run from 70.5° on the 49 up to 71.5° on the larger sizes, paired with a 51mm fork offset and 425mm chainstays across the size range. Stack-to-reach numbers stay aggressive without dropping into pure road race fit—a 56 measures 578mm stack to 400mm reach—and wheelbase grows steadily through the sizes from 1008mm on the 49 to 1078mm on the 61. The threaded 68mm bottom bracket shell, 12x142mm rear thru-axle, flat-mount disc tabs, and UDH rear derailleur hanger handle the frame's interface standards, keeping future drivetrain swaps and service straightforward.

Tire clearance moves up to 55mm, the new benchmark for aero gravel race bikes and a meaningful jump from the 47mm ceiling of the previous Crux. That extra clearance opens up the route options without forcing a tire change, and pairs naturally with the Roval Terra Aero CL wheelset that ships on this build. Both wheels use a 27mm internal width and tubeless-ready carbon construction—50mm depth up front, 45mm at the rear—laced to DT 350 hubs with Center Lock disc mounts and DT Swiss Competition spokes. Pathfinder 700x45 tubeless-ready tires fill out the clearance with a fast-rolling tread suited to mixed gravel surfaces.... Read More
