Description

Stem compatibility with Specialized's Future Shock suspension system depends on getting the steerer diameter right, and the Future Shock Stem Shim handles the conversion when your preferred stem doesn't match the Future Shock's steerer tube. The shim adapts a standard 1-1/8" stem clamp to fit the Future Shock's larger steerer diameter, opening up stem options beyond Specialized's own Future Shock-specific offerings.

The shim itself is a precision-machined aluminum sleeve that sits between the Future Shock steerer and your stem's clamp area. Installation follows standard stem mounting procedures—you're essentially creating an interface layer that lets a conventional stem work with an unconventional steerer size. The machining tolerances matter here because any slop in the fit translates directly to handling imprecision, so Specialized machines these to tight specifications rather than treating them as generic hardware store spacers.

This becomes relevant when you want to run a different stem length, rise, or brand than what Specialized offers in their Future Shock-compatible lineup. Maybe you've dialed in your position on another bike and want to replicate that exact stem setup, or you're running a stem with integrated computer mounting that Specialized doesn't offer in a Future Shock version. The shim removes the limitation without requiring you to abandon the Future Shock system entirely.... Read More
