Description

Saddle cutouts generate strong opinions—some riders swear by them for pressure relief, others find the edges create new contact problems that didn't exist with a solid shell. The Specialized S-Works Phenom Mirror Saddle takes a different approach to the soft tissue pressure question, using a 3D-printed polymer lattice structure that conforms to your anatomy rather than forcing you to adapt to a predetermined cutout shape. The Mirror technology creates a surface that deforms under load in ways that foam padding simply cannot replicate, distributing pressure across a wider contact area while still maintaining the support needed for efficient pedaling.

Specialized developed the Phenom shape around their Body Geometry research, positioning the saddle in their trail and XC mountain bike lineup where riders move frequently between seated climbing and aggressive descending. The relatively flat profile accommodates position changes without catching on shorts or limiting movement when the terrain demands quick transitions from seated to standing. Nose length and width hit a middle ground that works for sustained seated efforts without interfering during technical sections where you're hovering behind the saddle.

The Mirror lattice structure underneath the minimal cover eliminates traditional foam layers entirely. Where conventional saddles use varying foam densities to create different support zones, the 3D-printed design achieves similar zoning through lattice geometry—denser patterns where support matters, more compliant structures where pressure relief takes priority. This approach also means the saddle performs consistently across temperature ranges that would affect foam compression characteristics.... Read More
