S-Works Recon SL Mountain Shoe WIDE
Description
Slot yourself into most cross-country race shoes and you're making a trade: road-level stiffness or a fit that actually accommodates a real-world foot. Specialized built the S-Works Recon SL to skip that compromise, and the Wide version pushes it further with a carbon base plate that runs 4mm wider than the standard SL and 8mm wider than the original S-Works Recon. If you've spent years shoehorning a broad forefoot into narrow XC shoes, this is the one that lets you breathe.
The foundation is a FACT carbon outsole rated at a 13.0 stiffness index, which sits just two points under Specialized's flagship road shoe. That translates to power transfer that feels road-shoe direct once you clip into a two-bolt pedal, without the sole flexing under a hard seated effort. An internal I-Beam runs through the plate to add stiffness and strength without piling on material, which is a big part of how a shoe this rigid stays this light. The wider footprint also spreads your weight across more surface area, which tends to keep hotspots at bay on the long days.
Body Geometry shapes the whole platform, with the Varus Wedge, Longitudinal Arch support, and Metatarsal Button working to line up your hip, knee, and foot as you pedal. Dual BOA S3-Snap dials handle retention with knurled metal knobs and 1mm micro-adjustment increments, and updated BOA routing means you lock the foot down without a toe strap. The Dyneema upper resists stretch and abrasion while keeping weight down, and an asymmetrical heel counter braces the medial side while shedding material on the lateral side for a lower collar....
