Description

Carbon handlebars occupy a particular space in the upgrade hierarchy—they're often dismissed as a comfort play or a weight savings that only matters to gram counters, but the S-Works Shallow Bend makes a different argument. Specialized engineered this bar around the premise that handlebar flex directly affects how much road vibration reaches your hands, and that reducing that transmission matters more on hour four of a ride than it does on hour one. The FACT carbon construction absorbs high-frequency vibration that aluminum bars pass straight through, which accumulates into fatigue that most riders attribute to fitness rather than equipment.

The shallow drop geometry positions the hooks closer to the brake hoods than traditional anatomic or deep drop bends, which changes how you use the lower hand position. Riders who avoid the drops because the reach feels too extreme often find a shallow bend puts that position back into their regular rotation. The 125mm drop and 70mm reach create a cockpit that works for criterium racing where you're constantly transitioning between hoods and drops, but also for longer events where spending time in the drops shouldn't require contorting into an aggressive tuck.

Specialized builds this bar around their Aerofly cable routing system, which runs housing through the bar itself to eliminate external cable loops across the front of the cockpit. The internal routing creates a cleaner aesthetic, but the functional benefit is reducing the cable drag and housing interference that can make steering feel vague at high speeds. Bar tape wrapping follows standard practices since the routing channels sit inside the bar structure rather than along external grooves.... Read More
