Description

The previous Tarmac SL7 spent five years as Specialized's definitive road racing platform, accumulating World Championship victories and grand tour stages while establishing the template for modern aero-road integration. The S-Works Tarmac SL8 Frameset arrives as more than an incremental update—Specialized claims an 11% improvement in aerodynamic efficiency alongside a 7% increase in frame stiffness and an 8% reduction in weight compared to its predecessor. Those numbers emerge from a ground-up redesign that reconsiders tube shapes, cable routing, and component integration to extract performance across every metric that matters in road racing.

The FACT 12r carbon layup represents Specialized's highest-grade material, with fiber orientation and resin systems optimized specifically for the SL8's tube profiles. The frame shapes themselves move away from the truncated airfoil sections that defined the SL7, adopting what Specialized describes as a more progressive approach to aerodynamic tube shaping that reduces drag without sacrificing the direct power transfer road racers demand. The result is a frameset that weighs 685 grams in a size 56—a figure that places it among the lightest production road frames available while maintaining UCI compliance.

Cable routing on the SL8 runs fully internal through the proprietary cockpit integration, with a single entry point at the headset eliminating the port clutter that complicated earlier internal routing systems. The frameset ships with Specialized's S-Works Aerofly II handlebar and integrated stem combination, which routes brake hoses and electronic shift wires through the bar and stem before entering the frame at the headset. This integration extends to the seatpost, where an S-Works carbon post with D-shaped profile continues the aerodynamic theme while providing 20mm of fore-aft saddle adjustment.... Read More
