Description

Professional cycling's long-running tug-of-war between aerodynamics and low weight has, for years, forced riders to pick a specialty—a wind-cheating aero frame that climbs reluctantly, or a featherweight climber that gives back watts on the flats. The Tarmac SL8 Pro is Specialized's argument that the choice is no longer necessary. Specialized set out to create a bike more aerodynamic, 15% lighter, with a 33% improvement in stiffness-to-weight than the previous Tarmac SL7. The Pro build wraps that platform around Shimano's Ultegra Di2 electronic groupset, sitting one rung below the S-Works flagship while sharing the same frame silhouette and race-bred intent.

Thanks to Rider-First Engineering, every rider, regardless of size, gets the same ride quality and handling, and in the saddle the Tarmac SL8 delivers 6% more compliance, floating over rough road with a supple feel unique in the world of race bikes. Rather than scaling a single layup up or down, Specialized tunes tube dimensions and carbon placement per size so a smaller frame rides with the same character as a larger one. The proven geometry and 32mm tire clearance are identical to the SL7, ensuring easy adaptation and the versatility to run higher-volume tires when needed.

Aerodynamic gains concentrate at the front of the bike. Clean air is optimized with the Tarmac's nose cone, the Speed Sniffer—by moving the steer tube back, the leading edge of the head tube can be much sharper, delivering a lower-drag shape. Utilizing new UCI rules, the Tarmac SL8 has the narrowest, most aero seat post Specialized has made, letting fast-moving air around the legs flow back more cleanly. The FACT 10r frame carries a threaded BSA bottom bracket, 12x142mm rear thru-axle, and flat-mount disc tabs.... Read More
