Specialized's Time to Finish philosophy reframes what a fast road bike should be, and the Tarmac SL9 S-Level Dura-Ace Di2 brings that thinking into a build aimed at riders who want flagship engineering without the full S-Works price. Rather than chasing the lowest wind-tunnel drag figure or the lightest number on a scale, the SL9 was developed around a physics-based simulation that predicts total elapsed time over a real World Tour course, integrating aerodynamics, weight, rolling resistance, surface roughness, environmental conditions, and rider power into a single model. The frame is built from FACT 12r carbon, the same construction that defines the platform, and it carries the full set of aerodynamic and lightweight technologies that make the SL9 the fastest road bike the brand has produced. This is a bike engineered to turn more of your effort into speed across the climbs, descents, and flat transitions where races are actually decided.
The geometry is pure race, drawn straight from the proven Tarmac fit that World Tour athletes have campaigned across stages and Monuments. Across the size range, head tube angles steepen and trail tightens as frames grow, delivering the telepathic handling and instantaneous response the Tarmac line is known for. Chainstay length holds at 410mm across every size, keeping the rear end short and the power transfer direct, while bottom bracket drop shifts from 74mm in the smallest frames to 72mm in the larger ones to balance stability and pedal clearance. Every size receives a size-specific layup tuned to performance metrics unique to that frame, so stiffness, compliance, and handling stay consistent whether you ride a 44 or a 61.
What sets the SL9 apart from previous Tarmacs is how comprehensively the tube shapes were reworked for aerodynamics without sacrificing weight or ride quality. The Speed Sniffer head tube was made thinner, and to free up the space normally reserved for internal cables, the Offset Steerer design reroutes the rear brake line along the right side of the steerer. A dropped down tube works in concert with the head tube and fork to manage airflow through the high-pressure zone at the front of the bike, while the Flow Fork twists its blades outward to keep airflow attached longer across the front half of the frame.
