Terra TLR Gravel Tire
Description
Specialized positions the Terra TLR as the most aggressively treaded tire in its gravel lineup, built for loose, rocky terrain where traction matters more than outright pavement speed. The tread pairs a compact center cluster with widely spaced shoulder knobs, so the tire keeps rolling resistance in check on straightaways while the outer knobs bite when you commit to a loose corner. If your rides trend toward chunky forest roads and technical descents rather than smooth hardpack, this is the tread pattern in the range that leans furthest toward grip.
The center knobs sit close together to roll efficiently under power, and Specialized claims the updated tread shaves a watt of rolling resistance over the previous design. Move to the shoulder and the knobs open up, giving the edge of the tire the spacing it needs to dig into soft or rocky surfaces when the bike is leaned over. It replaces the Rhombus Pro as the brand's most knobbed gravel option, and it does so at a lower weight than the tire it supersedes.
Grip comes from Specialized's GRIPTON T5 compound, the version tuned toward traction and stability in mixed terrain. The casing is a 60 TPI 3-ply TLR construction that runs tubeless, and Specialized redesigned it alongside the Terra wheels to resist pinch flats, claiming 6% more force is needed to bottom the tire out compared to the previous generation. Independent testing has flagged puncture and pinch-flat resistance as merely average against the broader field, so treat pressure choice carefully on sharp, rocky terrain rather than assuming the casing will forgive a hard rim strike....
