Description

Specialized rebuilt the Tracer as a middle-ground gravel tire that sits between the fast-rolling Pathfinder and the more aggressive Terra, and the Tracer TLR lands as the all-terrain option for riders who want one tire that handles hardpack racing, loose gravel, and the occasional singletrack detour. The tread is similar to the Terra TLR but with lower, more closely spaced knobs, using a central strip of wider knobs for power transfer while the tread opens up toward the shoulders with increasingly aggressive side knobs. If you've been running a Pathfinder and wished for more bite when things get loose, or a Terra and wanted a faster-rolling center, this is where those two priorities meet.

The big construction change from the outgoing Tracer Pro 2Bliss Ready is the removal of the BlackBelt anti-puncture strip, which dropped the 40mm claimed weight to 460 grams versus the 42mm Tracer Pro's 525 grams. That's a meaningful cut for a gravel tire in this width range, and it explains part of why the Tracer TLR feels livelier under acceleration than its predecessor. The tradeoff is real, though — puncture resistance of both the tread and sidewalls is a weak point according to lab testing, so if you rode the old Tracer specifically for its BlackBelt layer, worth knowing going in.

The 60TPI 3-ply TLR casing is built for gravel durability without the weight penalty of mountain bike casings, and Specialized claims 6% more pinch-flat resistance than the previous generation. Rubber is Gripton T5, the fastest version of Specialized's current Gripton compound lineup, which biases the Tracer toward rolling speed over the outright grip you'd get from a softer T7 or T9 compound. It's the right call for a tire meant to do a bit of everything.... Read More
