The 4.0 build runs a Shimano CUES drivetrain — a 10-speed 11-48t cassette, Rapidfire Plus shifter, and a Shadow Plus rear derailleur whose clutch keeps the chain settled while the suspension cycles. A 48-tooth chainring with Chain Retention Technology and a chainguard handles the other half of that job. Braking is Tektro HD-T5040 hydraulic 4-piston calipers front and rear, running 2.3mm rotors and 5mm pads. That is extra material in both wear surfaces, which is what a 68-lb bike with a loaded rack asks for on a long descent.

Wheels are 27.5" with 30mm internal rims laced on DT Swiss Elemental spokes, wearing Specialized Hemisphere Flat Resistant ALLTERRAIN Reflect rubber in 2.6" — volume enough for low pressures off pavement, with reflective sidewalls and reinforced anti-flat tubes for the commuting half of the equation. The lowerable seatpost offers 100, 125, or 150mm of travel depending on size, so the saddle gets out of the way before a steep pitch. A 25kg MIK-compatible rear rack with integrated straps, long fenders, an adjustable kickstand, a 500-lumen Lezyne StVZO headlight, and a rack-integrated taillight with automatic braking detection all come fitted.
