Anyone still riding a mechanical SRAM road group knows the hoods are the first thing to go — the rubber cracks at the flex points, tears where your thumbs sit, or just gets tacky from years of sweat and sun. SRAM's DoubleTap Brake Lever Hoods are the factory replacement pair for the original mechanical DoubleTap levers, sold as a set of two in black to match the stock look.

Fitment is where you have to pay attention. These hoods cover the first-generation 10-speed mechanical DoubleTap platform — the 2007-and-later Force and Rival levers, along with the original Red (Gen 1) and Apex levers built on the same body shape. They are not the right hood for Red 22, Force 22, Rival 22, any of the 11-speed hydraulic levers, or any eTap/AXS lever. If your levers are the mechanical, rim-brake, DoubleTap style with the paddle behind the brake lever and no hydraulic reservoir on top, these are the correct part.

Installation is straightforward but takes a few minutes of patience. Peel the old hoods off, clean any residue from the lever body, and roll the new hoods on from the front, working the rubber back over the pivot and around the clamp band. A little rubbing alcohol on the inside of the hood helps it slide into place, then evaporates and lets the rubber grip the lever body.
