Equipment > Components > Brake Levers > Shifter/Brake Lever with Caliper Gravel
Description
Hydraulic disc brakes transformed road bike stopping power, but early adopters dealt with clunky lever shapes and vague bite points. SRAM's Force 22 hydraulic system addressed both complaints with a lever blade designed around hand ergonomics rather than just mechanical function. The left lever controls your front brake through a closed hydraulic circuit using DOT fluid, delivering consistent modulation whether you're scrubbing speed into a corner or grabbing a handful on a wet descent.
The Force 22 lever body uses the same reach adjust as mechanical systems, so riders with smaller hands can dial in comfortable positioning at the hoods. The S4 caliper included here mounts to flat mount or post mount frames using the appropriate adapter. A single piston design keeps weight reasonable while providing enough clamping force for road and gravel applications where you're not repeatedly bombing extended descents.
DOT 5.1 fluid handles temperature extremes better than mineral oil alternatives, though it requires more careful handling during bleeds since it's hydrophilic and will absorb moisture over time. Plan on a fluid change annually if you're riding in variable conditions, or sooner if lever feel goes soft. The bleeding process uses SRAM's standard procedure with a syringe at the caliper and reservoir at the lever.... Read More
