The Force AXS E1 borrows its cage geometry and shifting logic directly from the RED E1 front derailleur, which is the shift most people won't see mentioned in the marketing copy. If you're rebuilding a 2x12 Force AXS drivetrain and your current front derailleur is a D1 or D2 generation, the E1 is the current replacement — and it's a meaningful step forward, not just a cosmetic refresh.

The cage is narrower than the outgoing design, which matters in two specific situations: outboard shifts under power, where the chain has less distance to travel and completes the shift faster, and clearance between the cage and the drive-side crankarm in the big ring. That crankarm clearance issue was a common complaint on the D1, and SRAM addressed it by moving the rear cage bolt from outboard to inboard on the E1.
