Traditional chains use figure-eight-shaped inner plates, but Flattop chains use flat-topped inner plates that create a wider engagement surface with the chainring teeth. The Force E1 Flattop chain runs exclusively on Flattop-compatible chainrings—standard 12-speed chainrings won't work, so verify your crankset before ordering.

The E1 designation covers both 12-speed and 13-speed SRAM road systems. Same chain works whether you're running a Force AXS 12-speed groupset or upgraded to the new 13-speed Red or Force transmission.
