Description

The SRAM PC-951 sits at the entry point of SRAM's 9-speed chain lineup, and if you're running a 9-speed drivetrain from either SRAM or Shimano, this is the replacement chain that keeps you moving without overspending on a groupset tier the rest of your drivetrain doesn't match. It's SRAM's most economical 9-speed PowerChain II , which means the internal construction shares the same design language as SRAM's higher-tier chains — just without the nickel plating or hollow pin treatments that push the price up on Force and Red-level chains.

What you're getting for the money is a chain built around the Step2 riveting process that increases push pin power for strength and durability , paired with chrome-hardened rivet pins on grey plates. That combination is the durability story on this chain — the pin retention is what fails first on cheap chains, and SRAM's riveting process is aimed directly at that failure mode. It's the same reason the PC-951 shows up as OEM spec on a lot of 9-speed complete bikes.

Compatibility is the important part to get right. This is a 3/32" derailleur chain sized specifically for 9-speed cassettes, and it works across 9-speed SRAM and Shimano drivetrains — so if you're running Alivio, Deore, Sora, Tiagra, or an older SRAM X.7/X.9 setup, this drops in. It will not work on 8-speed or 10-speed systems; the inner width is specific to 9-speed cog spacing. Installation is tool-free thanks to the included PowerLink connector, which pinches together by hand and locks under pedaling load. Keep the PowerLink with the chain when you clean it — that's the reusable closure, and losing it means buying a replacement master link.
