The tradeoff to know before buying: the chainrings and power meter are one piece, so when the rings wear out, you replace the whole unit. The RED chainrings are made to last 50% longer than SRAM's 11-speed chainrings, and note that the chainrings cannot be replaced when worn, since the rings and power meter are one piece. Most customers can get many years of life out of the power meter before it needs to be replaced and SRAM offers a 50% off replacement when needed. For most riders that math works out — you get years of use, and when it's time, SRAM cuts the replacement price in half.

On the measurement side, this is a true dual-sided power meter, not an estimated left-side reading doubled. The SRAM power meter measures power at the spider and is therefore able to measure power from both legs.
