Description
Flattop technology changes how chain and cassette interface. Instead of the traditional roller design that's been around for decades, SRAM's XX Eagle Transmission chain uses a flat contact surface between the inner and outer plates. This increases the engagement area with cassette teeth, which translates to better power transfer and reduced wear on both components. The chain was engineered specifically for the Transmission system's direct-mount cassette, where the tolerances are tighter than traditional freehub-based setups.
The XX designation puts this at the top of SRAM's Eagle mountain hierarchy. You're getting a hard chrome finish on the inner and outer plates paired with a nickel coating on the link plates. This combination handles the grit, mud, and general abuse that mountain chains face while maintaining smooth shifting performance. The 126-link length covers most full-suspension and hardtail builds, though you'll likely remove links during installation to match your chainstay length and gearing.
Chain compatibility matters here. This chain requires the XX, XO, or GX Eagle Transmission rear derailleur and corresponding Transmission cassette. It won't work with standard Eagle drivetrains that use a traditional freehub cassette mounting system. The PowerLock connector link is included for installation, and SRAM recommends their PowerLock pliers for removal rather than pushing the link out with a chain tool.... Read More
