Description

T-Type transmission changed how SRAM thinks about derailleur mounting. The XX SL Eagle AXS rear derailleur bolts directly to a Universal Derailleur Hanger rather than hanging off a traditional frame tab, which fundamentally alters the alignment relationship between derailleur and cassette. That direct-mount interface means the derailleur position is set by the UDH specification itself, not by hanger alignment or the vagaries of frame manufacturing tolerances. If your frame has a UDH—and most performance mountain bikes released since 2022 do—the derailleur indexes to the cassette the same way every time.

The mechanical architecture follows a flattened parallelogram design that keeps the guide pulley closer to the cassette across the gear range. Paired with the T-Type cassette's altered cog spacing, this geometry reduces chain articulation angles during shifts. The system works exclusively with T-Type cassettes; traditional Eagle cassettes use different spacing and won't index correctly. That's not a limitation so much as an acknowledgment that the whole drivetrain was engineered as a matched system.

Wireless AXS shifting handles gear changes through SRAM's established protocol. You get the same app connectivity for shift customization, the same battery platform shared across the AXS ecosystem, and the same pairing simplicity. What's different here is weight—260 grams makes this the lightest AXS derailleur SRAM produces. The XX SL designation means they went after every gram: refined cage geometry, material optimization throughout, and the kind of detail work that separates race equipment from trail equipment....
