Description

The XX SL sits at the top of SRAM's Eagle Transmission chain lineup, above the XX and X0 T-Type chains, and it's the chain SRAM specs on the XX SL Transmission groupset — the flagship. If you're rebuilding a full XX SL T-Type drivetrain and want a like-for-like replacement, this is the chain that came on the bike. It also drops in as an upgrade for XX, X0, and GX Transmission builds where you're chasing grams without changing the shifting behavior of the drivetrain.

What separates the XX SL from the XX and X0 T-Type chains is what SRAM removed rather than what they added. The XX SL uses hollow pins to shave weight against the solid pins on lower tiers, and the outer plates get cut-out windows machined through them for further weight reduction. SRAM finishes the chain with a silver PVD coating for corrosion resistance and reduced friction. The plate geometry and Flattop profile are shared across the T-Type chain family, which is what keeps shifting performance consistent whether you're on GX or XX SL — the SL just weighs less.

Compatibility is the part to get right. T-Type chains only work with T-Type cassettes and chainrings, and previous-generation Eagle drivetrains use a different chain-to-cog interface. If you're on a pre-Transmission Eagle setup, this chain will not shift correctly for you — you need the older XX SL Eagle chain with a standard quick link. SRAM also lists this chain as not suitable for e-MTB use, where the added torque calls for the heavier-plated XX or X0 T-Type chain instead.... Read More
