Heavy flywheels were the old shortcut to inertia indoors, and the SB20 that Stages used to help launch the smart bike category back in 2019 leaned on a roughly 55-pound unit to get there. Seven years later, the SB200 Indoor Smart Bike takes a different path, running a two-stage belt drive — a synchronous belt feeding a Poly-V second stage at a 25:1 ratio — that spins a far lighter freewheel about 5 times faster. Stages' principal engineer puts the resulting inertia increase at roughly 4.5 times over the SB20, and the belts never need lubrication. The whole bike comes in at 71.21 lbs with roller wheels, so one person can move it between rooms instead of recruiting help.
The chassis is engineered to move. Two outrigger pads sit where the contact patches of an outdoor bike's tires would be, letting the frame sway side to side under hard efforts. Soft pads come installed and a harder set ships in the box for a more planted feel, and the optional RigidRide accessory locks things down to SB20 levels of stability. Stages VP of Product Development Pat Warner calls the SB200 an outdoor bike simulator, and the electromagnetic brake backs that up with 400W at 40 RPM, 1500W at 120 RPM, and a 2500W ceiling, so standing starts and sprint efforts don't run out of resistance before you do....
