Vittoria developed the Air-Liner Light XC in collaboration with professional teams who needed pinch flat protection without the rotational weight penalty of heavier insert systems. At 55 grams, this insert weighs less than the sealant required to mount the tire, keeping rotating mass low enough that the bike's handling characteristics stay sharp through technical sections and snappy during accelerations out of corners.

The foam construction uses an open-cell structure that serves multiple functions. Under normal riding conditions, the insert reinforces the tire sidewall against lateral loads while letting the tread section ride on air for a responsive contact patch. When you catch a square edge or misjudge a line through rocks, the foam progressively compresses to prevent rim strikes and snake bite punctures. That progressive compression means the insert absorbs impact energy gradually rather than bottoming out abruptly, maintaining traction through hits that would otherwise cause a pinch flat or knock you off line.

Run-flat capability provides up to 25 kilometers of cautious riding when a puncture does occur.
