Description
Training tires occupy a different category than race rubber. You want puncture resistance that survives daily miles on questionable pavement, a casing that doesn't go square after a few hundred kilometers, and a price that doesn't make you flinch when it's time to replace them. Vittoria built the Rubino V to handle exactly this role, drawing on construction principles from their race-day tires but tuned for the realities of year-round riding.
The casing uses a 60 TPI nylon construction that prioritizes durability over the ultra-supple feel of a higher thread count. That trade-off makes sense for a training tire — the slightly stiffer ride telegraphs less road buzz into the bar, but the casing shrugs off the cuts and abrasions that destroy lighter tires within a season. A reinforcement layer sits beneath the tread to handle glass, wire, and the small road debris that finds its way into shoulders and bike lanes.
Vittoria's compound here is a graphene-infused rubber that the team at Excel has watched perform consistently across the Rubino lineup for several seasons. The compound balances rolling resistance against tread life, and graphene helps the rubber resist the heat buildup that accelerates wear on long descents and high-mileage weeks. Grip in the wet stays predictable, which matters more on a training tire than on something you only roll out for race day.
