Description

Buying a new bike with thru-axle dropouts shouldn't mean retiring a perfectly functional trainer. The Wahoo KICKR Thru-Axle Adapter V2 bridges that gap for riders still running the original KICKR v1 from 2014 or the v2 from 2016, converting these legacy trainers to accept 12x142mm thru-axle frames without requiring a full trainer upgrade.

The adapter works by replacing the standard quick release hardware on the trainer's drive unit with a hub width adapter on the non-drive side and a threaded axle spacer on the drive side. Your bike then mounts using an included extended quick release skewer rather than the frame's native thru axle, which stays at home in your toolbox. Wahoo includes both conical and flat frame adapters in the kit to accommodate different dropout interface designs, so you can match the adapter geometry to your specific frame requirements.

Compatibility matters here and the limitations are firm. This kit works exclusively with 12x142mm rear spacing, which covers most road, gravel, and cross-country mountain bikes built before the widespread adoption of boost spacing. If your bike runs 12x148mm boost, 12x135mm, 12x150mm, or any other thru-axle standard, this adapter won't work. Wahoo offers different adapter solutions for their 2018 and newer KICKR models that handle boost spacing and other standards, but the v1 and v2 trainers require this specific kit for 142mm bikes only....
