Description

Gravel racing speeds have climbed to the point where aerodynamics matter as much off-road as they do on pavement, and the Zipp 303 XPLR SW answers that shift by rethinking the rim-tire relationship from the ground up. Rather than borrowing a road wheel shape and widening it slightly, Zipp pushed the rim to 32mm internally and 40mm externally, paired with a 54mm depth that treats aerodynamic efficiency as a gravel concern rather than a road-only one. Most gravel wheels sit at 28-30mm externally, which creates a lightbulb-shaped mismatch when a 40mm-plus tire is mounted —the 303 XPLR SW closes that gap by letting the tire sit flush with the rim sidewall.

The SW designation sits at the top of the 303 XPLR range, sharing rim dimensions with the more affordable 303 XPLR S but upgrading the carbon layup, graphics, hub, and spokes. The flagship wheel uses a higher-end carbon lay-up, Zipp's dimple texturing on the rim exterior, and the six-pawl ZR1 hub laced with Sapim CX-Ray bladed spokes . The ZR1 DB hub is engineered in Germany with a revised seal design for improved durability and features 66 points of engagement , which translates to roughly 5.5 degrees between clicks—quick enough to load the pedals immediately when you stand to accelerate out of a corner.

The hookless bead design is central to how the wheel performs, but it carries a strict compatibility requirement. Zipp's recommended tire sizes of 40-45mm sit well below standard ISO recommendations for a rim this wide, so the approved tire list is limited to the two Goodyear XPLR models, Zipp's G40, and Schwalbe's G-One range above 40mm . Riders committed to a tire outside that list should verify compatibility before buying—this is not a wheel that accepts any tubeless gravel tire. Maximum tire pressure is 50 psi , and the wide internal bed is designed around running well below 30 psi for the intended comfort and rolling resistance gains.... Read More
