Description
Latex material stretches up to 8 times its original size, which means the Challenge Latex Tube deforms around road debris rather than puncturing like stiffer butyl tubes. That elasticity also lets the tube conform to tire shape changes during cornering and rolling, reducing rolling resistance by an estimated 3 watts per wheel compared to standard butyl construction. The seamless one-piece design eliminates the valve bump and uneven spots found in conventional latex tubes where the valve attaches.
The tube fits 700c wheels with tires from 23mm to 30mm wide. A 47mm Presta valve includes a removable core, which means you can swap in longer valve stems for deep-section wheels or add sealant through the valve without removing the tire. The valve bonds directly to the latex rather than using a separate grommet, which reduces potential failure points at the stem junction.
Latex loses air faster than butyl due to its porous structure. Check pressure before each ride and expect to add 5-10 psi between rides depending on how long the bike sits. The material requires careful installation to avoid pinching between tire bead and rim, so take your time seating the tire and avoid using tire levers during the final stages of installation. Some riders add 5-7ml of latex sealant through the removable valve core for additional flat protection, though the tube already offers strong puncture resistance on its own.... Read More
