Speedplay Speedplay V.2 Protector Shim Kit
Use these shims for shoes with carbon soles to protect the carbon from abrasion. They install in between the cleat and baseplate on a 3-hole shoe and go between the sole and cleat on a Speedplay specific 4-hole shoe. These protectors also makes it easier to clean Speedplay cleats and keeping Speedplay cleats clean helps them perform more reliably. This Carbon Sole Protector Shim Kit will work with the newer V.2 cleats and is backward compatible to older cleats.
Includes eight new V.2 Cleat fastening screws that are visually distinct from pre-V.2 cleat fastening screws. The V.2 Cleat fastening screws are not continuously threaded up to the head of the screw. Instead, the threads of the screw stop mid-way up the screw shaft and then have a small, unthreaded section of the shaft continuing to the screw head.

- .2mm Thick
- 4 Hole Mount

Not for 3-hole carbon shoes! The description for these protectors says: Use these shims if you have shoes with carbon soles to protect the carbon from abrasion. That statement is only correct for 4-hole carbon shoes. Four-hole shoes permit the cleat to rest against the shoe sole. But this allows the pedal to contact the sole, causing damage. These shims are designed to fit between the cleat and the sole, protecting the sole from damage. But when using speedplays with 3-hole shoes, you use a 3-hole adaptor plate that sits between the sole and the cleat. The pedal never touches the sole -- it hits the 3-hole adaptor plate. Therefore, these plates are essentially useless for 3-hole shoes.I bought these plates for my Sidi Genius Fit carbon shoe, based on the description. When I got them, I realized that they are not necessary for my 3-hole shoes. I wish the description had been accurate, because now I'm out 10 bucks!
