Description
Taller hoods with an inward curve change how your hands settle on the bars during long efforts. The ST-R9250 dual control levers from Shimano redesign the contact points that rim brake Dura-Ace riders spend hours gripping, creating a more natural perch that reduces hand fatigue and improves control when you're riding on the hoods. The lever body reach extends 4.6mm compared to the previous generation, which adds space between the brake lever blade and the handlebar surface. That extra clearance matters when you're braking hard and your fingers need room to squeeze without bottoming out against the bar tape.
These are the rim brake levers in the R9200-series Dura-Ace lineup, and unlike the disc brake ST-R9270 that uses wireless communication, the ST-R9250 runs entirely on wired connections through Shimano's SD300 e-Tube cables. The wired approach eliminates the coin cell batteries that the wireless levers require, which means no battery swaps to think about and no potential for wireless interference in the middle of a race. Each lever body has two SD300 ports for routing to the system battery and other components, plus a third port dedicated to satellite shifters if you want additional shift points in the drops or on aero extensions.
Shift switch design received attention in this generation. The switches themselves are longer, which makes them easier to reach when you're riding in the drops and don't want to move your hands to change gears. Shimano also increased the offset between the two switches on each lever, so you can differentiate between upshift and downshift by feel alone without looking down. The click response is deliberate and tactile, providing confirmation that your shift input registered before the derailleur even moves. This matters in race scenarios where you're shifting under load and need certainty that the gear change is happening.... Read More
