Description
Hydraulic brakes need periodic bleeding to maintain lever feel and stopping power. Air bubbles work their way into the system over time, and contaminated fluid loses its performance characteristics. The Park Tool BKM-1.2 contains everything required to bleed mineral oil brake systems from Shimano, Magura, Campagnolo, and TRP—brands that all use mineral oil rather than DOT fluid. One kit handles the whole range, which matters if you're working on multiple bikes or doing service for friends.
The kit includes two syringes with threaded plunger locks that prevent accidental fluid expulsion during the bleed process. Tubing connects to brand-specific fittings that thread into bleed ports at the lever and caliper. Park Tool includes the correct adapters for each supported brand, so you're not hunting down proprietary fittings separately. The bottle of high-performance mineral oil works across all compatible systems—you don't need brand-specific fluid despite what some manufacturer literature suggests.
Mineral oil systems are generally more forgiving than DOT fluid setups. The fluid doesn't absorb moisture from the atmosphere, so your brake performance stays consistent longer between bleeds. It's also less aggressive on paint and components if you spill some during the process. That said, you still want to keep it off disc rotors and brake pads, which is where the included bleed blocks come in. These spacers hold the pistons apart while you work, preventing accidental lever pulls from pushing pistons out and contaminating pads.... Read More
